Géraldine Tobe, born February 9, 1992 in Kinshasa, is a visual artist and artivist from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Accused of witchcraft as a child and subjected to violent exorcism, she now paints her canvases with the smoke of an oil lamp. Her work questions ancestral beliefs and the place of the colonizer's religion, and describes her personal suffering, as well as that of women and the Congolese people as a whole. She has acquired an international reputation, exhibiting in various countries around the world and taking part in projects linked to the restitution of works of art.
