Born in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) in 1994, Franck Ezan grew up in an orphanage with his twin brother, also a visual artist. After five years at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts d'Abidjan, he graduated with a Master 2 in painting in 2019. Franck Ezan explores the complexity of the human being, both psychologically and physiologically. It is from his personal history that he draws the questioning necessary for his creative work. It's an intimate story, imbued with the experiences of a childhood that was as tormented as it was happy. His relationship with others, his deep-seated torments and, above all, his relationship with his brother, his true double in appearance, are the elements behind the choices that have shaped his path and influenced his artistic approach. He draws spectral-looking figures, somewhat lost in a world of images and symbols, and covers them with lines in the shape of fingerprints, the only signs that differentiate him from his twin brother. He sculpts their faces in a translucent material, but without specifying their features. But does physical appearance really matter? Ezan wants to reinvent the world in his own way, to sublimate it. He creates an enchanted universe, where the generosity of colors and shapes take a singular path and lend their poetic character to his works. In his own words, his work "has a vocation to sublimate, to reenchant a world anesthetized by doubt and frightened to death by the power of the sun".
