Allé Assi

Allé Assi was born in 1988 in Akoupé, near Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He graduated from the National Institute of Arts and Cultural Action in Abidjan, where he honed his skills in the visual arts. In addition to his artistic practice, Assi teaches visual arts in both public and private educational institutions, sharing his knowledge and passion with the next generation of artists. His work often explores concepts of space and the boundaries of socialization, particularly in urban environments. This interest in the dynamics of cities reflects a broader commentary on how these spaces influence human interactions and cultural identities. Assi's artistic approach is inherently transdisciplinary, allowing him to draw from various fields and ideas, enriching his work with depth and meaning. Utilizing eclectic materials, such as fabric scraps sourced from local tailoring workshops, he incorporates these elements onto his canvases. This innovative technique not only adds texture and visual interest to his pieces but also serves as a metaphor for the diverse experiences and narratives present in contemporary society. In 2023, one of his significant works was showcased in the exhibition L'Art dans la Cité, organized by the Dapper Foundation at the Rotonde des Arts in Abidjan. This exhibition highlights the vital role of art in public spaces and how it can foster dialogue within communities. Through his participation, Assi contributes to a larger conversation about the intersection of art, culture, and social engagement in urban contexts.
