Max Mbakop is a Cameroonian visual artist (photography, videography, installation), director and puppeteer, based in Douala. He is the founder of the theater company Cie Horiz'art , and also founder of Kam'Art Corp , a photography and Audio-Visual company. Born in Ndoungué (Cameroon), Max Mbakop moved from town to town due to his father's teaching career. This brought him into contact with many different cultures, developing his need to express himself. Having studied computer science and audio-visual, he entered the world of art through theater in 2004 with playwright and poet KOUAM TAWA. In the same vein, he began working in set design and puppetry with references references such as Philipe Aucher, Wieland JAGODZINSKI,... and went on to train as a director with Martin AMBARRA, WERE WERE LIKING and many others, not only to open up and broaden his field of expression, but also to gain a better understanding of the artistic universe and find his way in it. This led him into the world of cinema, where he trained with director Vincent NDOUMBE. Later, he met the late GODDY LEYE, who helped him take part in a video art workshop at Art Bakery. He then decided to explore the visual arts through video and photography. He has exhibited at festivals (RAVY, ARTchSO VIDÉO FESTIVAL in Renne, Lausanne, etc.) and galleries (Doual'art). Max Mbakop is a member of several associations and cultural groups in Cameroon, notably the Collectif Kamera.
