OZIOMA ONUZULIKE WAS BORN IN 1972 IN ACHI, ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA. HE LIVES AND WORKS IN NSUKKA, WHERE HE TEACHES CERAMICS AND THE HISTORY OF AFRICAN ART AND DESIGN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA. Ozioma Onuzulike is a graduate of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is also a member of the Civitella Ranieri Foundation in Perugia, Italy, where he completed a residency as part of the UNESCO-ASCHBERG grant for artists. He also studied at the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in the USA. A ceramic artist and poet, his work explores the historical and sociological origins of political and socio-economic unrest on the African continent, as well as its consequences on everyday life. Ozioma Onuzulike is interested in the aesthetic, symbolic and metaphorical nature of the clay that forms the basis of her work. His exploration of the material - clay - manifests itself in the way he shapes it - he hammers, crushes, grinds, cuts, pinches, punches, perforates, burns and fires it - to create the multiple pieces that give life to the final composition of his works. The artist had an institutional solo exhibition entitled Seeds Yams of Our Land at the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2019, as well as a presentation of his poetry collection of the same title, also published by the CCA. Ozioma Onuzulike's works were part of the exhibition Entanglements: Colonial Collections in Decolonial Times held at the Cambridge Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. His work has also been shown at international fairs such as the Armory Show in New York, 1-54 London, artgenève and Art Brussels. Source : https://afikaris.com/fr/artists/48-ozioma-onuzulike/
