Olumide Daniel O. (b. 1992, Nigeria) is a visual artist whose figurative paintings capture the emotional intensity and assertive energy of the black experience. Originally from Oyo State but living and working in Lagos, his work incorporates representations of these places, enabling an intuitive practice that connects his creations to everyday people. By creating large-scale compositions with a central figure, his paintings exude a haunting stillness for the viewer, while revealing multiple layers of darkness. Working mainly in oil and acrylic, he masters the exploration of light and texture, demonstrating his ability to illustrate the dynamism and diversity of African identity. His technique relies on the skilful use of relatively fine, discreet brushstrokes, creating a striking impasto effect that visually enriches his works. Thanks to his acute sense of detail, the musicality of his paintings creates cinematic, lively and animated characters. His artistic journey began at Ibadan Polytechnic, where he obtained his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in 2013, followed by studies at Obafemi Awolowo University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, specializing in painting, in 2018. 2024 had an exhibition entitled AWA at the O'da Art Galerie.
