Aurélie Djiena (1993 -) is a visual artist who lives and works in Douala, Cameroon. Her encounter with art was anything but obvious. Indeed, the young artist's dream was to follow in her parents' footsteps and pursue a career in teaching. However, in 2012, she enrolled at the Fine Arts Institute of the University of Douala in Nkongsamba. Her passion for art was encouraged by Jean-Jacques Kanté, Hervé Youmbi and Kristine Tsala. Aurélie specializes in her third year and decides, despite teaching centered on realism, to turn to a subject close to her heart: the meeting of craft and contemporary art. Her research took shape in the Master's program, as she sought to give a new image to craft practice. Her aim was to give a new image to the practice of handicrafts, a practice that was omnipresent among her ancestors. Weaving and basketry become the primary tools of her artistic language.
