Rostand Pokam, born in 1984 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, is a visual artist who has made a name for himself through his academic journey and dedication to the field of fine arts. Growing up in the Cameroonian capital, he pursued his artistic training at the Institut de Formation Artistique (IFA) in Mbalmayo, a well-regarded institution known for its comprehensive artistic education. It was during his time at the IFA that Pokam developed his technical skills and creative sensitivity, marking the start of a promising career. Pokam furthered his studies by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Arts, providing him with a solid theoretical foundation to deepen his practice. His work explores themes related to Cameroonian culture, contemporary realities, and the interaction between tradition and modernity. Through his art, he seeks to capture the essence of the society he inhabits while employing a variety of techniques, from painting to artistic installations. His artistic style reflects a blend of local motifs with a contemporary perspective, often influenced by his studies in Mbalmayo, a place that serves as a crossroads between rural and urban cultures. Pokam is unafraid to experiment with colors, shapes, and textures, creating works that provoke thought and evoke emotion in the viewer.
