The Douala Music Art Festival (DOMAF) will host the concept "Nuit des Griots " on November 29, 2025, at The Forest Creative Loft, located at the Montagne Manga Bell crossroads in Douala. This evening, dedicated to the art of storytelling and African oral traditions, is part of the new partnership established between DOMAF and the Night of the Griots festival in Marseille.
Through this collaboration, artists may be selected by representatives of the Night of the Griots festival in Marseille who will be present to perform in France in 2026. "Two or three artists could be chosen by the organizers," says Zacharie Ngnogue, director of The Forest cultural space.
According to him, the event could eventually expand over several days. "Nuit des Griots " aims to highlight storytellers, slam poets, singers, and musicians who carry on the griot tradition.
The Forest, valued for its intimate setting, was chosen to offer an immersive experience combining storytelling, music, and instrumental performances. The lineup features several artists, including Armand Biyack, Joy Sa’a, Luqman, 2BFranky, and the collective Enampi Therapy, each bringing a unique touch blending speech, rhythm, and cultural heritage. “The griot, an emblematic figure of transmission, is showcased here in all its diversity: mastery of the instrument, strength of storytelling, singing, wisdom, and collective memory,” explains Zacharie Ngnogue.
Under the theme “Share Your Light, Small No Be Sick,” this edition aims to celebrate the transmission, creativity, and diversity of African cultures within a setting that is both natural and contemporary.
