MOMAR SECK Visual artist, painter and sculptor, Momar Seck is a citizen of the world and a passer of knowledge. After graduating top of his class from the École Nationale des Arts de Dakar in 1994, he received a grant from the Swiss Federal Commission for Culture to study for a post-graduate diploma at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-arts in Geneva. In 2012, he was awarded a doctorate in Plastic Arts from the University of Strasbourg. Momar's creations have won him a number of awards, including the UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Visual Arts. Senegalese and Swiss by birth, Momar Seck taught for some thirty years in Switzerland, including 10 years as head of the Arts and Design Department at the International School of Geneva. After this long stay in Europe, he decided to return to Senegal in 2022 to contribute to his country's cultural development. He explains his artistic approach in his book “Art africain contemporain, ma démarche en partage” (Baobab Edition). As part of his commitment to sharing, he organizes residencies for Swiss and French artists in Senegal, and offers training opportunities and fruitful exchanges for young Senegalese artists and Swiss and international students. His work is rooted in the essential values of Africa. He seeks to raise awareness by working on themes of the environment, interculturality, identity and ongoing existential questioning. His work focuses on the use of recycled materials and objects. Textile recycling, which has its own history depending on the society from which it originates, enables her to establish a dialogue between peoples and cultures. Bits of fabric glued together express the desire to change oneself and exchange with others, the desire for union and cohesion. Momar exhibits regularly in Europe and Senegal, and has taken part in exhibitions in France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Switzerland (Palais des Nations, Musée Rath in Geneva, Kunsthalle in Berne), the United States, Cuba... and many others. In May 2022, he will be taking part in the Biennale de l'Art Africain Contemporain de Dakar at the Senegal Pavilion of the Musée des Civilisations Noirs. Currently, his exhibition “Environnement 2.0” can be seen at the Ngala contemporary art space in Zurich until March 15, 2023. https://www.hoopgalerie.com/momar-seck
