The Alliance française de Garoua is a local association approved by the Fondation Alliance française, which is recognized as a public utility. As such, it belongs to the network of the world's leading cultural NGO, which brings together over 800 Alliances françaises in nearly 140 countries. The Alliance française de Garoua was founded in 1995. It is the result of the transformation of a French cultural antenna into an Alliance. It is a cultural space of exchange and knowledge whose ambition is to support the cultural and artistic life of Cameroon, in particular that of the Septentrion, while spreading the French language and culture. The Alliance française de Garoua is located close to the town center, in a pleasant, friendly 2-hectare park, and offers a wide range of activities to members and non-subscribers alike. The site houses the largest media library in the Septentrion region, with almost 15,000 books, a central boukarou (traditional hut) for exhibitions and conferences, a restaurant, four rooms for work or rehearsals, a craft village, a 400-seat open-air theater for shows (concerts, theater, dance) and film screenings, as well as the Agence consulaire de France.
