From June 16 to 22, 2025, the city of Basel will be transformed into a mecca for contemporary African art with the first edition of Africa Basel. Coinciding with the prestigious Art Basel week, this new fair promises to highlight the richness and diversity of African artistic creation.
Founded by art fair entrepreneur Sven Eisenhut-Hug and cultural visionary Benjamin Füglister, Africa Basel aims to become a key platform for African artists and galleries. The event will take place at the Ackermannshof, an emblematic cultural space in Basel, offering an ideal setting for discovery and exchange.
To guarantee the quality and diversity of the program, Africa Basel has assembled a selection committee made up of leading figures from the African art world: Azu Nwagbogu, Michèle Sandoz, Serge Tiroche and Greer Valley. Their expertise will enable us to present a balanced selection of established and emerging galleries, reflecting the vitality of the African art scene.
In addition to the exhibition of works, Africa Basel will feature a series of parallel events, such as conferences, round tables and performances. These events will promote cultural and intellectual exchange between artists, collectors, curators and the general public.
Africa Basel 2025 promises to be a major event for contemporary African art enthusiasts and professionals. Don't miss this unique opportunity to discover emerging and established talent from this booming continent.
