Chidi Kwubiri, born in 1966 in Umuahia, Nigeria, is a Nigerian-German visual artist. In 1993, he became a guest student at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he initially studied painting under Michael Buthe. After Buthe's death in 1994, Kwubiri joined the masterclass of A. R. Penck, completing his studies in 2002 under Penck's mentorship. Since 2000, Kwubiri has been living with his family in Pulheim, near Cologne, where he works in his studio located in the historic industrial complex, WALZWERK. Kwubiri has showcased his art in numerous international solo and group exhibitions across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the USA. In 2016, he designed the Lenten veil for MISEREOR's 2017/2018 global Lenten campaigns. His recent exhibitions include the Florence Biennale in 2019, along with shows in Beirut, Dubai, and Accra. Kwubiri has also been involved in art projects addressing social issues, such as an initiative against child violence in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit and the Goethe Institute. His work has been exhibited at prestigious venues, including the Casablanca Biennale, the Goethe Institute, and museums and galleries in cities such as Paris, New York, Miami, and Orlando.
