Aida Muluneh is an artist with a passion for photography. Of Ethiopian origin, she was born in 1974 in Addis Ababa, from where she did part of her studies. She holds a degree in communications with a specialization in film from Howard University in Washington, D.C. Her widely published photographs are included in the collections of major institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Smithsonian's National Museum of African Art, the Hood Museum, the RISD Museum of Art and the Museum of Biblical Art in the United States. She has received several awards, including the European Union Prize at the Rencontres Africaines de la Photographie in Bamako in 2007, the CRAF International Photography Prize in 2010, and was named CatchLight Fellow in San Francisco in 2018. In 2020, she was also honored with the Royal Photographic Society Award for her curatorial work. In 2019, Muluneh became the first black woman to co-curate the Nobel Peace Prize exhibition and returned as an artist in 2020. Her creative work supports projects to raise awareness and champion environmental and health causes. Her work is exhibited worldwide and featured in leading publications. A leader in her field, she is recognized as a force for change in Africa, helping to alter perceptions of the continent. As a Canon brand ambassador, Muluneh is actively involved in the development of the Canon brand.
