Adel Abdessemed, born March 2, 1971 in Constantine (Algeria), is a Franco-Algerian artist who works in several media (drawing, video, sculpture, installation...). He lives and works in Paris. He comes from a Chaouis family of Aurès origin living in Constantine. He began his artistic training in 1986 at the École régionale des beaux-arts in Batna. In 1990, he joined the École supérieure des beaux-arts d'Alger, which he left in 1994, following the assassination of director Ahmed Asselah and his son on the school premises. He then studied and worked at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon (1994-1998), in Paris (Cité internationale des arts, 1999-2000), New York (Bourse P.S.1, 2000-2001), Berlin (2002-2004), Paris (2005-2008), New York (2009), London and Paris again. He is represented by Galleria Continua in Paris and Dvir in Tel Aviv.
