Koko Komegne

Biography

Gaston Komegne, popularly known as Koko Komégné, is a Cameroonian painter and sculptor born in 1950 in Batoufam in the West Region of Cameroon. He completed his primary school education in Yaoundé until the fifth grade. He moved to Douala in 1966 at the age of 16 where he began a career as a painter after meeting a French advertising artist based in Douala named Jean Sabatier. Koko Komégné is considered the father of contemporary Cameroonian art. He has held several group and solo exhibitions throughout his long career. In 2016, he celebrated the 50th anniversary of his artistic career with a retrospective exhibition of over 200 works entitled "Sweet Logik."
